"The Ship Comes In"

Famed for their work on the vast refurbishment of the London Underground, H&E Smith have recently completed another bespoke project on The Ship Inn public house in Chester.

The brief was to produce a bespoke mural to take pride of place at the end of the public bar. It was also to match the original black and white signage outside

To achieve this, small intermittent electric kilns were used to produce special tiles in snowdrop with a frame of double arris mouldings in Victorian Black.

The image of the ship and the logo were supplied by the client and the ceramic artwork was then digitally created from a simple PDF. Each stage of production was carried out in Stoke-on-Trent and this revolutionary method of tile decoration can be adapted for external projects, when the tiles are given a frost resistant treatment.

This project, along with many others completed by the company over the last 20 years, demonstrates their design capability and production capacity to provide any type of tile required, from plain durable wall tiles to patterns and letters.

Notes to Editors…

Since 1926 H&E Smith have manufactured only the finest quality traditional English ceramic wall tiles in Stoke-on-Trent, for use in a myriad of settings. Traditional techniques, coupled with an inherently skilled work force, allow the company tremendous flexibility in producing bespoke ranges of varying size, shape and glaze finish.

The business is very comfortable in making tiles for restoration projects, and is also happy to consider exclusive commissions to customers requesting such.
